Pakistani Diplomat Lands In A ‘Touch-Me-Knot’ In Delhi Market; Let Off After Written Apology To DU Student Victim 

Yet another diplomatic row between India and Pakistan was set off as a Pakistan High Commission staffer allegedly misbehaved with a female student from Delhi University at the famous Sarojini Nagar market on Monday (14 January), reports TOI.

Meanwhile, Pakistan accused India of violating the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations by detaining the official from the Pakistan High Commission in the capital. On the other hand, the Indian government defended its decision by pointing to the harassment faced by Indian diplomats in Islamabad, including attempts to hack their social media and email accounts.

The Delhi police had detained the Pakistani official, who has been identified as Shaukat, an assistant of the naval advisor, for his involvement in an altercation with the woman who he allegedly inappropriately touched. He was later let off after apologising to the woman in writing, after which the woman did not press charges.

"We had to wait for the woman to decide on whether she wanted to register a formal complaint during which the official was asked to sit in the SHO's office," said a police officer, while denying that the official was detained for hours.

"Pakistan strongly protests this violation of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations and reserves the right to respond," said an official from the Pakistan foreign office.
