A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court to restrain the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) from conducting an event in Chennai to felicitate musical maestro Ilayaraja, New Indian Express has reported.

The event is all set to take place on 2 February.

The petition filed by the proprietor of JSK Film Corporation J Sathish Kumar also seeks to restrain TFPC from holding its annual general meeting (AGM) on 25 February.

Justice K Kalyanasundaram has sent a notice to TFPC in this matter.

The petitioner alleges that the current office-bearers of TFPC are unilaterally taking decisions which are against the association’s interests. It added that the council is unjustifiably spending huge sums of money like for the event organised to felicitate Ilayaraja.

The petition has also demanded that a retired Madras HC judge be appointed to oversee the election to select the council’s office-bearers.
