Petrol Two-Wheelers Shouldn't Be Sold In India After 2025, Says Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal

Ola Chairman Bhavish Aggarwal believes that India can make a complete transition to electric two-wheeler vehicles by 2025, saying that petrol two-wheelers shouldn’t be sold in the country after five years.

Launching the company’s brand-new electric scooter, Aggarwal advocated for the entire industry in the country to join hands towards becoming a global leader in the field of vehicle electrification.

“It requires will power, investment, it requires technology; it requires leadership and we believe everyone should take the lead,” the entrepreneur was quoted in a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

Stressing upon the importance of this transition, the 35-year-old mentioned that there will be a greater number of jobs in the country if India becomes an international leader with respect to electric vehicles (EV).

Furthermore, Aggarwal added that people engaged in the gasoline ecosystem can be conveniently retained into the EV ecosystem as well.

“After 2025, no petrol two-wheeler should sell in the country. And it is possible, we can make this transition in four years. We have to reject petrol and make a transition to sustainability,” the founder of Ola Cabs asserted.

Aggarwal explained that about 80 per cent of vehicles sold in India currently are two-wheelers and they are solely responsible for 40 per cent of air pollution. In order to prevent this penetration from expanding massively, he quipped that moving to EVs is not optional but rather crucial right now.
