In a big push for the domestic smartphone manufacturing ecosystem, homegrown major Lava International is in advanced talks with one of the top Indian telecom giants to manufacture co-branded smartphones, reports Economic Times.

The co-branded smartphone will be subsidised by the telecom giant, pulling down the prices of 4G smartphones in India, and likely pushing adoption.

Also, the company has also begun making smartphones for the Finnish telecom giant Nokia (HMD Global). It is now also looking to partner with companies which can share supply chains.

It should be noted that the developments also gain significance as the company is one of the five select domestic smartphone makers who have been chosen under the Government's ambitious production linked incentives (PLI) scheme.

To meet the targets under the PLI scheme, the company has already expanded its manufacturing capacity to 30 million smartphones and 45 million feature phones.

Also, it should be noted that Lava International and another company chosen under the attractive scheme, Dixon Technologies were also reported to be in talks with Motorola for a $1 billion deal for contract manufacturing of smartphones.
