Soon after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ruled himself out of the next cabinet on health grounds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a courtesy call to him and discussed the shape and size of NDA-2’s new team which will be swearing-in soon, reports Hindustan Times.

Arun Jaitley, who is recuperating from serious health issues over the last 18 months, had clarified the PM that he would like to relieve himself from any further possibility of holding more responsibilities. This was followed by a formal letter which was put out by Jaitley through his Twitter handle.

He has been one of PM Modi’s strongest supporters right from his Gujarat chief minister days and continued to play the role of the prime minister’s chief troubleshooter in the previous government.

For many years, Jaitley stood at the forefront of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajya Sabha where NDA is still lacking a majority. His good rapport with many opposition leaders played important role in government’s attempts to pass several bills in the upper house of the Parliament.

The BJP stalwart said that he will continue to stand with the party and support its work.
