Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (7 January) inaugurated the 306 km Rewari-Madar section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. He also flagged off world's first Double Stack Long Haul 1.5 km in length 'Container Train' virtually between Haryana's new Ateli and Rajasthan's New Krishnanagar.
The commercial operations on this Western Dedicated Freight Corridor stretch are all set to begin following the Prime Minister's inauguration.
It was earlier reported that the Indian Railways has carried out a trial run of the double stack and double rake goods train on the western dedicated freight corridor.
Here is a video of the goods train which is being hauled by the powerful WAG-12 and WAG-9 locomotives using the 2x25 kv electric traction system.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said, "The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project is being seen as a game changer in 21st century for India. A big chunk of the project has been dedicated to the nation."
The Prime Minister said the speed of the goods and freight train has reached 90 kmph as compared to 25 kmph, which is thrice more than earlier.
The Western Dedicated corridor would be used for long-haul double stack container operation to carry four times more goods as compared to the current traffic in the section.
The launch of commercial operation of goods trains on the Rewari (in Haryana) and Madar (near Ajmer) section in Western Dedicated Freight Corridor would benefit various industries in Rewari–Manesar, Narnaul, Phulera and Kishangarh regions of Haryana and Rajasthan. In addition to this, the container depot of CONCOR at Kathwas will also come on the DFC map and get advantage in terms of faster throughput.
Freight trains are expected to run at the maximum speed of 100 kmph on this track. Earlier the DFCCIL had successfully run trains with wagons at 110 kmph on this stretch. The wagons to be used on this route have a 14 per cent more weight carrying capacity than the wagons being currently used on Indian Railways.
