Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation to the outreach session of the forty fifth G-7 Summit to be held in Biarritz. The invitation to PM Modi had been extended by French President Emmanuel Macron in which he had requested PM Modi to attend the summit as a special invitee, reports Hindu BusinessLine.

“The invitation is a reflection of the personal chemistry between the two leaders, a demonstration of our deepening strategic partnership and recognition of India as a major economic power. PM has accepted the invitation to attend the event which will also include a bilateral component. Further details will be shared in due course,” said Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The summit will take place from 24-26 August in Biarritz, France. It should be noted that the French Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne was in India for the first French ministerial trip to the country since the re-election of PM Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

Lemoyne during the visit also welcomed PM Modi's proposal for a global conference to tackle the threat of terrorism. Endorsing the idea, Lemoyne said, "Fight against terrorism is at the heart of our priorities. France stands alongside India in this and I think we must address different things - cybersecurity, for example, is crucial (so is) the fight against financing terrorism. It's an everyday fight and I can say that we have strong relations on this front," reports Business Today.
