Police In Pakistan’s Punjab Demolishes Minority Ahmadi Muslim Mosque, Arrests Community Members For Filming Demolition

In the Punjab state of Pakistan, a 70-year-old mosque belonging to the minority Ahmadi Muslim community was destroyed by Pakistan Police on 25 October, reports India Defence News.

The Ahmadi Mosque was targeted by Assistant Commissioner of Hasilpur in Punjab province, in south-eastern Pakistan, Mohammad Tayyab. The mosque was destroyed with the help police officers and officials from Bladia, the local development authority.

Spokesperson of Jama’at Ahmadiyya Pakistan, Saleem ud din tweeted about this incident and said, “Assistant commissioner of Hasilpur along with Baldia workers attacked the 70-year-old Ahmadi place of worship in 161 Murad District Bahawalpur & destroyed parts of the building without notice.”

The mosque was partially demolished despite built on property owned by the Ahmadi community. Ahmadis who filmed the video of the demolition of the mosque, were booked under unsubstantiated charges by Pakistan Police.

In Pakistan, Ahmadiyya’s cannot identify themselves as Muslims by law and face routine discrimination by the majority Sunni Muslims.

In May 2018 another 100 years old Ahmadi mosque was demolished by the angry Pakistani mob in Sialkot.
