The state-run public broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Wednesday (17 June) posted a tweet urging people to listen to the Tibetian World Service offered by All India Radio (AIR). This program by AIR offers authentic news and programs from Tibet.

Besides tuning in from a radio, these services can also be accessed via YouTube and in a text format.

The tweet which came amid high public anger against China over its premeditated violence against Indian troops in Galwan Valley, soon went viral. It has over 4,800 retweets and 8,400 likes at the time of the report's publication.

China which annexed Tibet in 1950-51 has over the years been described as an occupying force and has been involved in various human rights violations in the region.

Many Twitter users this opportunity to demand freedom for Tibet.

While the Tibetian World Service is not a new offering by AIR, many analysts praised Prasar Bharati for the timing of its campaign.
