Priyanka Vadra who was appointed the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, failed to revitalise the party’s prospects in the state.

As per latest trends, the Congress is leading in just one seat in Uttar Pradesh while its vote share has fallen from 7.50 per cent in 2014 to 6.28 per cent. As things stands, Rahul Gandhi is set to lose to Smriti Irani in Amethi. Irani currently has a lead of over 24,000 votes.

Despite the alliance between SP-BSP and RLD, the BJP has managed lead in 61 seats with a vote share of almost 50 per cent.
