Posters accusing Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of have gone missing and terming her as an emotional blackmailer were put up in some parts of Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, which is the constituency of her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The posters led to a significant dispute between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The posters have mentioned her absence even as various tragedies have occurred in the constituencies, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The Congress blamed the BJP for indulging in the poster campaign with reports of 50 to 100 posters posted in the Sadar and Sareni assembly areas ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
District Congress committee president V K Shukla condemned the act and accused few local politicians who shifted sides from Congress to BJP of coming up with the smear campaign and said that a complaint will be registered with the district magistrate while also adding that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has a personal connection to the people of Rae Barelli and Amethi and has been meeting them in Delhi.
Rae Bareli BJP president Ram Dev Pal defended his party saying that they never resort to such tactics and that posters targeting BJP leaders have come up in the past. “Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned actively for her mother Sonia Gandhi in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. She is not an office bearer of the Congress. She comes to create a poll atmosphere in her mother’s favour. This appears to be an attempt of the local Congress leaders to draw the attention of the people,” said Pal.
The District Magistrate said he would look into the matter despite not receiving any complaints.
