Punjab government is going to provide Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits to police personnel on the frontline in the fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak in the state, Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh announced on Tuesday (14 April).
Addressing a video conference, the CM said health care workers were the first priority of the government and it had 16,000 PPE kits for them, however, “the government will also give PPE kits to the police force”.
"The government is also procuring more kits to be given to the police personnel, after all the doctors, paramedics and sanitation workers in hospitals are equipped with such kits, he said, adding that the police force was facing major risks in the current situation," he added.
On the Patiala attack, the Chief Minister said he had told the Director General of Police (DGP) to take strict action against the perpetrators of crime. "What do the Nihangs think? They can't get away with this," he said.
Stating that his first reaction to the incident was of "extreme anger", the Chief minister said ASI Harjeet Singh (whose hand was chopped off by the Nihangs) was an extremely brave man.
