Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he is ready to work with any leader in the United States (US) who has the confidence of the American people but is still not ready to recognise the election victory of President-elect Joseph Biden, reports Times of India.

Putin reasoned that the confidence can only be given to a candidate whose victory in the election has been recognised by the opposing party, or after the results are confirmed legitimately and legally.

The comments from President Putin come even as several noted world leaders including Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi have already congratulated Biden and his Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on the election victory.

When asked if Russia's decision to not recognise Biden's victory yet could cause damage to the US-Russia ties, Putin replied, "There's nothing to damage, they are already ruined."

Putin described Russia's decision to not congratulate Biden just yet as a 'formality' with no ulterior motives.
