Taking a U-turn on the Sabarimala issue, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has finally taken a pro-devotee stance on restricting women belonging to the childbearing age from entering the temple and called for protection of traditions, reports Times of India.

The Congress leadership in the state has welcomed the stance of Rahul Gandhi.

"I see the validity of the argument that temple traditions need to be protected," said Gandhi. "After I spoke to people in Kerala, I realised both sides have a valid point and that the issue is more complicated. I would leave the people to decide on the issue," Rahul Gandhi was quoted as saying by TOI.

After the Supreme Court ruling on Sabarimala on 28 September, Rahul Gandhi had said that "my personal view on the matter is different from my party's Kerala unit and that all men and women are equal. All women should get permission to enter the temple."
