Rahul Gandhi is ‘coming of age,’ an article in an English daily claimed after he quoted Ghalib to respond to a statement given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For now, this seems a bit far-fetched.

Rahul Gandhi had on Wednesday accused Modi of having taken money from Sahara Group when he was chief minister of the state of Gujarat, but information related to his travel in Uttar Pradesh during the 2014 election campaign shows that the politician himself seems to enjoy close links with the real estate giant.

Here’s the case: On 12 April 2014, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Amethi, with his entire family, to file his nominations papers following a massive roadshow. The car that he used to commute, as seen in the picture below, belongs to Sahara India Pariwar.

As per official records, the vehicle bearing registration number UP32 DZ 7000 belongs to ‘M/S Sahara India’. Here are the details provided by the website of the Transport Commissioner:

The record can be obtained through SMS, by sending VAHAN <SPACE> Vehicle Number to 7738299899. A reply to the SMS will provide information about the vehicle.
