Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, blaming “Modi’s policies” for creating “space for terrorists in Kashmir”.

Gandhi also took a dig at the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, writing, “Short term political gain for Modi from PDP alliance has cost India massively.”

“Modi’s personal gain”, he wrote, came at the cost of “innocent Indian blood”.

Gandhi’s use of the tragedy at Amarnath Yatra to attack his political opponents does not appear to be in good taste. One can’t help but think this is not the time for politicking but to send out a signal of unity. Mere finger-pointing is but a futile exercise.

On Monday (10 July) night, terrorists riding a bike opened fire on a police vehicle and a bus ferrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, killing seven, including six women, and injuring 32 others. The attack was planned by a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist from Pakistan.

Security forces have launched a massive manhunt to nab LeT commander and Pakistani national Abu Ismail, who is now believed to be behind the attack on the pilgrims.
