Railways Identifies Six New Routes For High Speed Rail Corridors, Will Prepare Detailed Project Reports Within A Year

Work is on to prepare detailed project reports to understand feasibility and traffic potential for high speed/semi high speed rail along six routes recently identified, Railways Board Chairman VK Yadav was quoted as saying.

These routes are Delhi-Noida-Agra-Lucknow-Varanasi (865km), Delhi-Jaipur-Udaipur-Ahmedabad (886km), Mumbai, Nashik-Nagpur (753km), Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad (711km), Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru (435km) and Delhi-Chandigarh-Ludhiana-Jalandar-Amritsar (459km)

"We have identified these six corridors and their detailed project reports (DPR) will be prepared within the year. The DPR will study the feasibility of these routes which includes land availability, alignment and a study of the traffic potential there. After these things are studied, we will decide if they will be high-speed or semi-high speed corridors”, Yadav further added.

The Centre had recently granted in-principle approval for a Rs 66,000 crores semi high speed rail project in Kerala to connect the state’s capital Thiruvananthapuram and the city of Kasargod.

The project once completed would reduce the time taken to travel between the two cities from present 12 hours to just four hours, with the trains able to run at a speed of up to 200 kmph. The project is being implemented by the Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), a joint venture of the Indian Railways and state government.
