Railways To Run 16-Coach Unreserved Antyodaya Train From Chennai To Sengottai

Indian Railways is all set to press its first Antyodaya rake into service, running them on a 16-coach train between Tambaram in the outskirts of Chennai to Sengottai in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, reports The New Indian Express. The train will run twice a week, and will feature only Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches manufactured by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.

The Antyodaya Express comprises entirely of unreserved coaches linked to each other via a vestibule that operates on overnight journeys. It was first proposed in the 2016 Railway budget by then Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu.

Each coach will feature newer facilities such as bio-toilets, water dispensers, chrging points for electronics and braille signage.

Along with this, Southern Railways will also launch its Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Yarti (UDAY) Express, connecting Coimbatore to Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka. The UDAY Express consists of completely air-conditioned doubcle-decker coaches and will complete the Bengaluru-Coimbatore journey in seven hours.
