YSR Congress Party MP Raghu Ramkrishna Raju shared pictures of injuries to his feet as he accused the Andhra Pradesh CID officials of physically assaulting him while in custody.
The sixth additional magistrate court in Guntur remanded Raju to 14 days of judicial custody before which he was booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 124-A, 153-A and 505 read with 120-B.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IG) to assess the Narsapuram MP’s health by forming a three-member medical team.
This followed the habeas corpus registered by Raju’s lawyers in the division bench of HC. The report on his medical examination has to be submitted by the coming Sunday, India Today reports.
The rebel MP was arrested by the state CID department on charges of sedition after he filed a petition asking for a cancellation of bail that was granted to CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy by a CBI court in relation to a disproportionate assets case.
Raju had earlier openly admitted to large-scale religious conversions being conducted by Christian missionaries in Andhra Pradesh.
The YSRCP MP had indicated that these missionaries silently go to colonies in the nighttime and preach their religious messages in a bid to convert the locals.
