Prime Minister Narendra Modi while hosting a dinner for India’s top military brass which included three and four star Generals, bluntly asked the military leadership to prepare the armed forces for future combat and “reduce obsession over ceremonies, pomp and pageantry”, Strat News Global has reported.
This dinner was hosted by Prime Minister Modi on 31 December.
Prime Minister Modi also urged the top military brass to reduce wastage and avoid duplication in defence acquisitions. He added that the focus should be on making armed forces more reliant on technology rather than manpower.
Prime Minister Modi said that the moment is here to fully transform the Indian Armed Forces as after the creating of the Department of Military Affairs led by India’s Chief of Defence Staff, the military and not the civilian bureaucracy has an opportunity to be on top of decision making.
Recently, India had officially announced the creation of the long pending demand for a Chief of Defence staff post. India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat will head the Department of Military Affairs and will directly report to the Defence Minister.
