Reliance’s Gujarat Plant To Supply 100 MT Oxygen To Maharashtra As Demand Rises In Mumbai, Pune

Maharashtra’s urban development minister Eknath Shinde revealed on Tuesday that the state is set to receive 100 metric tonnes of oxygen from the Jamnagar plant of Reliance Industries in the wake of the rising Covid-19 cases in the country.

Apparently, the demand for oxygen has been skyrocketing in the Mumbai metropolitan region, and Pune and consequently the state administration has been proactively looking to find solutions to address this brewing crisis.

“The rate of oxygen consumption in the state is increasing as mentioned by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. We have now made some temporary arrangements wherein we will get 100 MT of oxygen from the Reliance plant in Gujarat,” Shinde was quoted as saying in a report by the Times of India.

The senior Shivsena leader added that the concerns on the logistical side will be addressed by putting into service a parallel network of nitrogen-supplying tankers. Moreover, appropriate police protection and priority on the roads will be provided to these tankers too.

In fact, the tankers used to carry nitrogen will also be employed to transport oxygen from the plants to the concerned hospitals. Shinde mentioned that every district collector has been asked to conduct an analysis regarding their demands and requirements for oxygen and ensure that its sufficient supply is maintained.

Similarly, the local administration has been also asked to ensure that private establishments supplying oxygens also build up their capacity and storage facilities as soon as possible.
