Decks have been cleared for the ace wrestler and Common Wealth Games (CWG) medal winner Babita Phogat to contest the upcoming elections in Haryana as the latter's resignation from the state police has been accepted by the incumbent Haryana government, reports Indian Express.
Babita who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with her father Mahavir Phogat who is a Dronacharya awardee was a sub-inspector in the Haryana Police's cadre and had submitted her resignation from the force a month ago. The same has now been accepted.
There are speculations that the BJP could field the popular wrestler from Bhadra or Dadri assembly constituency. Meanwhile, Babita said, "Whatever the party decides, I will be ready for the role. I have been meeting people from the villages in my district and listening to them. My aim is to listen to the people and to work for their betterment.”
The 29-years-old had been inducted in the Haryana Police by the former Haryana chief minister (CM) Bhupinder Singh Hooda after she had won the gold medal in the 2014 CWG games event held in Glasgow, Scotland.
