Returnee Migrant Workers Account For Over 60 Per Cent Of All Active Covid-19 Cases In Uttar Pradesh

Of all active cases of COVID-19 disease in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP), as many as 1,663 patients, or 60 per cent, are migrant workers who have returned from other states and union territories (UTs), reports Times of India.

To ensure effective coverage and containment of the cases erupting out of returnee migrant labourers, the state government's network of Asha workers have screened over 8.5 lakh such migrants so far. Apart from this, over 91,000 teams have also been engaged in surveillance. These have already surveyed over 72.18 lakh households to cover a population of more than 3.63 crore.

The state government has so far tested samples of 54,849 such returnee migrant workers, of which 1,663 have tested positive.

The total confirmed cases in the state so far have crossed 6,500 mark with the emergence of 229 fresh cases and eight new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. The death toll in the state has surged to 169 now.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that of the total 6,528 cases in the state, 3,660 have successfully recovered.
