The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has decided that the road leading to Ram Janmbhoomi in Ayodhya will be named after Kalyan Singh, the former Chief Minister of the state who passed away on Saturday night, reports India TV.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said on Monday, "Besides Ayodhya, one road each in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr and Aligarh will be named after him."
Maurya said that this would be a tribute to the contribution of the late leader in the Ayodhya movement and his commitment to the Ram temple.
"The PWD department will soon complete the formalities in this regard," Maurya told reporters.
Kalyan Singh died in Lucknow on Saturday night after a prolonged illness. His last rites will be performed on the bank of Ganga in Narora in the evening.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared three-day state mourning to condole the demise of Kalyan Singh.
On Sunday night, CM Yogi, while paying homage, described Singh as "a true son of Bharat Mata". He added, "Such was Singh's love for Lord Ram that he did not care about the lure of office when he had to choose between the two."
