Tainted police officer Sachin Waze allegedly extorted large sums of money from cricket bookies by threatening to frame them in false cases. The crime branch further alleged that this was done at the behest of former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
“Since Waze is close to Param Bir Singh, we want to question him on his current whereabouts. We want to probe where the plan to commit the offence of extortion, including collection of money, took place,” the crime branch explained during Waze’s remand hearing, as reported by the Times of India (TOI).
The agency sought the extension of his custody for further interrogation to find out if he has extorted money from other persons as well at Singh's instance and what was done with the money.
The crime branch also wants to unfold how the distribution of money took place amongst the other absconding accused.
The court even ended up granting Waze’s custody to the crime branch until 13th November and the police official’s lawyer Rounak Naik did not oppose the plea for further custody and submitted their willingness to cooperate with the investigations.
