A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was re-inducted into the Samajwadi Party (SP), after being expelled by his father and party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, the family drama doesn’t seem to be drawing to a close. Hours after Akhilesh Yadav was declared national president of SP by party general secretary Ramgopal Yadav, the latter was sacked by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The decision was announced at a meeting of the party’s central parliamentary board, where the senior Yadav branded the special “national convention” organised today by Ramgopal Yadav as illegal. Mulayam Singh also announced a convention of his own on January 5.
Earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav has been reported to have removed his father as national president, while sacking his uncle Shivpal Yadav as state unit head and expelling Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh from the party. He has also declared his father to be the party’s margdarshak. The junior Yadav, while addressing his father as “Netaji” spoke harshly against Shivpal Yadav, claiming he has been working against the interests of the party.
