A Bench Comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (6 May) dismissed a plea challenging the Jammu and Kashmir government's order restricting civilian traffic on a particular stretch of the national highway from Udhampur to Baramulla, reports Financial Express.
The said restriction had been put in place ahead in April 2019 for the Lok Sabha elections and would last till 31 May 2019. The rationale behind the restriction has been reported to be providing a safe and secure passage for the movement of troops involved in carrying out fair and peaceful execution of the elections.
After the counsel for the Jammu and Kashmir government apprised the bench of the aforementioned rationale, the bench headed by CJI dismissed the plea and said, “We are not inclined to keep this petition pending.”
