The much-awaited and historic verdict on the prolonged Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title dispute by the Supreme Court today (9 November) coincided with the foundation laying ceremony of a proposed grand temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya from thirty years ago, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The ceremony was held on 9 November 1989 by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at the disputed site. Three years later, in 1992, the Babri Masjid on the site had been razed by scores of volunteers.

The verdict was pronounced today by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi led bench of five senior most judges of the Supreme Court which included the Chief Justice designate Justice S A Bobde. The verdict has come after the bench heard the matter on a day to day basis in the recent past, bringing to closure the stretched case.

The matter was being contested in the top court by four parties namely the Ramlalla Virajman, Sunni Central Waqf Board, Shia Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara.
