Self-Serving ‘Mahagathbandhan’? Congress, BSP, AAP Back SP Supremo Akhilesh Yadav In Illegal Sand Mining Scam

With the increasing possibility that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may question the Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo, Akhilesh Yadav, regarding illegal sand mining which took place in Uttar Pradesh (UP) between 2012 and 2016 under former’s regime, the other opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh have come out in the support of the SP Chief.

The CBI had said that former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav would be examined in connection with an illegal sand mining case, just hours after the agency carried out searches at 12 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The premier investigating agency took over the case based on instructions given by the Allahabad High Court. The agency raided residences of senior officers such as B Chandrakala, famous for her anti-corruption crusade, in connection with the case.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “shamelessly unleashing” the probe agency on Yadav while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati called the probe a ‘political vendetta to malign the SP-BSP alliance.’

Arvind Kejriwal has slammed the BJP and has said that it is time to throw out ‘this dictatorial and undemocratic regime’ and Congress leader Kapil Sibal stated that “Now that the reports of SP-BSP alliance have come, raids have started against Akhilesh. This was expected, whoever speaks against them (BJP) is raided, that’s how this government is running.”

However, the BJP has rubbished the rumours of the Opposition parties and saying that the probe agencies don’t work keeping the elections in mind.
