Setback For Uddhav Govt's Plan To Shift Metro Carshed From Aarey, Bombay HC Stays Allotment Of Disputed Kanjurmarg Land

The Bombay High Court has granted an interim stay on the allotment of 102 acres of saltpan land at Kanjurmarg for the metro car shed, Mumbai Mirror reports.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government is looking to construct a consolidated car shed at Kanjurmarg for lines 3, 4, 4A and 6.

The central government along with other parties that have claimed title rights over the disputed land will be heard before the court.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has thus been asked to maintain status quo in the meanwhile.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey had shifted the car shed project to Kanjurmarg from Aarey milk colony in suburban Goregaon in October - which has been a major demand of so-called environmental activists.

The union government had filed a petition against the decision in the High Court though cabinet minister Aditya Thackarey asserts that the revenue records show that the land allotted by the collector to MMRDA for the car depot belongs to the state of Maharashtra.

“This land is crucial for Metro Line 6, 4 and 14, apart from 3, as it will save almost Rs 5500 crores of Govt and be a nodal point for 1 crore citizens,” the Thackarey scion said.
