Shahjahanpur Rape Case: Chinmayanand Put Under House Arrest After 7 Hours Of Interrogation By SIT; Ashram Sealed  

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chinmayanand, who is accused of raping a law student, was put under house arrest on Friday (13 September) by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), reports The Economic Times.

The Supreme Court-appointed SIT also sealed the Divya Ashram belonging to the former MP, in order to investigate the matter and find evidences. Chinmayanand, before being locked up in his house, was interrogated by the SIT for seven hours on Thursday.

“All the rooms in the ashram have been sealed and only one room has been left open. A heavy deployment of force has been made outside the ashram. Forensic teams are being called in to take evidences from the bedroom of the accused and other rooms,” said a police official.

The former union minister was interrogated on the allegations of sexual misconduct by a student in his college in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur.

The 72-year-old, however, has denied the allegations and has filed a case of extortion against the girl after she shared a video on 24 August and accused him. She has also alleged the evidences were missing from her hostel room after the police came for a search.

The girl had gone missing after she came out and was later found by the police in a hotel room in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.
