Sharad Pawar, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, stated that he believes India needs a new government and plans to meet Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 11 May in Mumbai.

Pawar confirmed his meeting with Kumar before heading to Nipani in Karnataka on 8 May to hold a rally for his party's candidate for the 10 May assembly election.

He mentioned that the country needs an alternative to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

The NCP leader stressed the importance of working towards a common goal and urged all parties, including that of Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee, to work together.

He said that anyone who wishes to contribute should be welcomed, and emphasised the need for collaboration towards a singular objective.

Nitish Kumar has taken it upon himself to unite opposition forces against the BJP-led government at the Centre.

On 12 April, Kumar had a meeting with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and former member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi in the national capital.

The meeting was considered a significant step towards laying the foundation for a grand opposition alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha election next year.
