In a shocking incident, Dilip Lande, Shivsena MLA from Chandivali, forcibly made a contractor sit on a pile of garbage that was reportedly blocking drainage and thereby giving rise to waterlogging in the area as Mumbai is facing incessant rainfall for the past few days.
Lande and his associates pushed the contractor to make him sit on the waterlogged street and even asked the politician’s workers to throw garbage on the man.
The MLA mentions that the contractor was tasked to clean out the garbage that could have prevented the waterlogging that resulted in a lot of trouble to the locals of the area. Failing to do so, he punished the man, the video of which has gone viral on social media recently.

“It was this contractor’s job to clear that garbage which he didn’t do. This was resulting in waterlogging and was causing a lot of trouble to the local people. I did what I did because the contractor did not do his job,” Lande’s statement was quoted in a report in the Indian Express.
Waterlogging issues have become a major cause of concern in Mumbai as the monsoon has struck the city hard in the last few days. The city recorded 562.2 mm rains in the first 11 days of the season itself, which is quite higher than the otherwise monthly average rainfall of 505 mm.
