Following a series of acquisition deals made by the Defence Minstry, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman approved the procurement of military armaments and weapons, including the ₹9,100 crore worth Aakash missile systems, as reported by Live Mint.

“The upgraded Aakash weapon system is an operationally critical equipment which will provide protection to vital assets,” the defence ministry said. Adding, that these upgraded variants will be supplied by the state run Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

Furthermore the defence approvals by the DAC includes a fresh design for the T-90 MBT (Main Battle Tank) and development of test apparatus for guided weapons systems, including the Individual Under Water Breathing Apparatus (IUWBA) which is used by the Tank crewmen as a safety gear and is crucial for emergency escape when overcoming snags underwater.
