As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) struggles to make an impact, going by initial Lok Sabha trends in Tamil Nadu, one of its key leaders and national secretary H Raja trails his main rival Karti Chidambaram of the Congress from the Sivaganga constituency.
The Election Commission website showed Karti, son of former Union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, leading by over 21,500 votes. The junior Chidambaram ended fourth behind H Raja in 2014.
With the BJP aligning with AIl India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Congress with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, they have become the main contenders.
The performance of the newly-formed Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam of T T V Dinakaran, who was expelled from AIADMK, is worth watching as it was expected to cut into AIADMK alliance votes.
