Soon Indian Railways To Introduce Airport Like Security On Major Stations For Enhanced Goods, Passenger Safety

In a bid to ensure foolproof security, all the major railway stations will soon have access control systems like those in the airports, reports Economic Times.

The railway stations would have entry and exit access only through dedicated points with security arrangements. Highly trained Railway Police Force (RPF) commandos will be deployed with upgraded scanning gadgets across key points in important railway stations.

The government has already sanctioned Rs 114.18 crore to deploy access control systems, covering the entire periphery of the stations. Walls will be built around important stations to put an end to unauthorised entry.

Brand new railway stations like the ones being constructed in Habibganj and Gandhinagar have upgraded security systems. Mapping of key railway stations is also being done by experts.

RPF has raised a new battalion of commandos who are deployed in the Naxal-affected areas. These commandos will soon guard the stations falling in the coal belt and the northeast region abutting the porous Bangladesh border.

The railways is intending to amend certain existing laws to give more legal muscle to its security force to investigate the cases of molestation, sexual harassment, rape and thefts committed in the trains.
