Bhalukpung-Tenga-Tawang line at a height of 10,000 feet has been planned by Indian Railways, Financial Express has reported. The new line will considerably reduce the travel time to Tawang because of this Railway line. The distance between Bhalukpung - Tawang via road is currently 285 km. The distance will be reduced to 166 km once the railway line is finished. About 80 per cent of the line is expected to pass through tunnels. The project is expected to be completed in six to seven years. As the line is close to the Sino-India border the line is expected to completed on a priority basis as per Hindustan Times report.
Indian Railways is planning to provide connectivity in the strategically important state of Arunanchal Pradesh. Survey for 11 new railway lines are in progress, while two surveys have been completed. Out of these, Bhalukpung-Tenga-Tawang railway line, the Pasighat-Tezu-Parasuramkund-Rupai railway line and the Silapathar-Bame-Aalo railway line have been identified by the National Security Council Secretariat (NCSC) and funded by the defence ministry as per Hindustan Times .
The announcement was made by Chief Minister of Arunanchal Pradesh Pema Khandu and Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain after a meeting on status of Railway projects in the state.
