Cooperation minister Bandeppa Kashempur on Thursday (12 July) informed the Karnataka legislative council that 10 lakh litres of sub standard milk was making its way to Bengaluru from other states, Deccan Herald has reported.

The minister was answering a question asked by Congress MLC S Ravi, during the discussion on budget in the council.  He added that steps were being taken to check the same.

S Ravi had raised the matter of fall in milk prices by Rs 3 in the discussion, and had sought the state government’s intervention over the issue.

Kashempur added that Karnataka produced 84 lakh litres of milk everyday, but only 34 lakh litres were being sold. The city was hence importing milk from other states even though Karnataka produced more milk than it consumed.

Further, he mentioned that the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had met representatives of all 14 milk unions and assured the support of the government in drawing up a marketing strategy to increase sales by focusing on milk byproducts.
