A suicide car bombing ripped through an office belonging to Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) in the city of Ghazni today (7 July) morning, reports Tolo News.

The responsibility for the attack on the building of the NDS, which is the main intelligence agency in the country, has been taken by the Taliban. The death toll from the attack is currently believed to be 12 but the number of injured is much higher at 179, out of whom 50 are children.

According to Gulf News, eight of the dead are security personnel, while the rest are civilians. The bombing comes barely a week after another high-profile Taliban attack in the capital Kabul which killed ten people and injured 100 civilians, among them 40 school children.

The attack took place even as an intra-Afghan dialogue is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar, where a number of the country’s politicians, journalists, civil society members, among other individuals, are present.
