An Assistant Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit was martyred and seven others were injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoist forces, reports Hindustan Times.
The IED blast was triggered in the Naxal hotbed of Sukma district's Talmetala area last night (28 November). The blast was orchestrated by the Maoists at a time when the CoBRA unit's commandos were carrying out an anti-Naxal operation late night.
It should be noted that all eight were initially injured in the blast. They were thereafter airlifted to Chhattisgarh's capital city of Raipur at around 12.45 am and were admitted to a hospital. However, in the morning today, Assistant Commandant Nitin Bhalerao took off to his heavenly abode after sustaining serious injuries.
Meanwhile, as per Sunderaj P who is Bastar's Inspector General of Police (IGP), the rest of the seven men are out of danger.
CRPF has been actively fighting the Maoists in the Naxal hotbeds of Bastar and Sukma for years now, and numerous men from its forces have valiantly laid down their lives defending the nation against the left-wing extremist Maoist forces.
