At least nine jawans of the 212 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed while six were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district today (13 March). The CRPF personnel were conducting an area-domination operation in the forests of Kistaram when their mine-protected vehicle (MPV) was blown up.
A patrolling party was going from Kistaram to Palodi in an anti-landmine vehicle which was targeted by Naxals with an IED. Extra force has reached the spot, there is no firing at present: DM Awasthi, Special DG, Anti Naxal Operations on IED blast in #Chhattisgarh's Sukma pic.twitter.com/sI3BbqJzAR

While eight of the men were killed on the spot, a ninth officer succumbed to his injuries later. Of those injured, three are in critical condition, say reports.
Sukma has been a naxalite hot-bed for some time now with a deadly attack taking place last April, in which 25 CRPF officers were killed in the Burkapal region.
