Indian-American tech tycoon Sundar Pichai is all set to become the undisputed leader of Google by replacing Larry Page as the CEO of parent company Alphabet, Reuters has reported.

Pichai has been serving as Google’s CEO since August 2015. Responding to his new role Pichai commented, “I’m excited about Alphabet’s long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. Thanks to Larry & Sergey, we have a timeless mission, enduring values and a culture of collaboration & exploration - a strong foundation we’ll continue to build on”.

Alphabet currently owns over 12 companies except Google, which include its self-driving car company Waymo and health care software brand Verily.

This move is a result of Page and Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s decision to extend their hiatus from public roles in the company. The Google founders in a blogpost announced their decision, designed to help them spend more time with their family.
