In a display of solidarity, Sweden is planning to send a million doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccines to India via the United Nation (UN) backed COVAX initiative, reports the Times of India.
Sweden will be sending the vaccine supplies to India without impacting the roll-out for its own population, given it has decided to administer the said vaccine only to the people aged above 65 years.
It should be noted that Sweden's vaccine coordinator Richard Bergstrom has said that the country has about four-five million more doses of spare AstraZeneca vaccines which it can further share at a later time.
Country's Minister for International Development Cooperation Per Olsson Fridh also said, "we see how the pandemic is raging around the world. People are dying, poverty is spreading, and children are still not back at school. We need to do everything we can to face this pandemic and fight it across the world."
