At a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu, its state unit Vice President B T Arasakumar jumped ship to the DMK on Thursday (5 December).

Arasakumar's decision to quit the party came after he had praised DMK President M K Stalin and said that the latter would become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The BJP is in alliance with the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.

Arasakumar joined the DMK in the presence of Stalin at the DMK headquarters here.

Speaking to reporters, Arasakumar said that many were sidelined in the BJP and those who had put in hard work for the party were not respected.

As per TOI report, in the presence of Stalin, Arasakumar said “After MGR, Stalin is the leader whom I appreciate the most. Had he wanted to become the CM, he could have grabbed the opportunity when AIADMK MLAs were lodged in a resort in Koovathur near Chennai. He wanted to become the CM in a democratic way. With patience and time, he will become the CM one day and we all will witness it one day.”

He had praised Stalin on Sunday (1 December) at a wedding ceremony in Pudukottai district and said the DMK leader would soon become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
