DMK president M.K. Stalin TODAY (Mar 7) released a 10-year vision statement for Tamil Nadu at a party conference currently underway in Tiruchi.
Stalin said the vision statement’s aim was to catapult Tamil Nadu to first position in all sectors in the next decade.
The vision statement unveiled by Stalin covered 7 areas: Economy, Agriculture, Water resources, Education and health, Urban development, Rural infrastructure and Social justice.
Under the vision for social justice, Stalin promised to offer Rs 1000 per month to housewives listed as head of the household in the ration card issued by the government. He also promised to double the scholarship amount for SC/ST students.
Tamil Nadu is estimated to have 2.6 crore ration card-holding families. While details of the promise are yet to provided, the proposal could conservatively cost over Rs 20000 crores per year for the state
Earlier this month, Stalin had announced that the party’s manifesto for the Assembly election would be released on March 11.
“It is a manifesto for the people and drafted with the participation of the people. It will have announcements for a new beginning for the people of Tamil Nadu. It will be the hero of the election like the manifesto of the party released by Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) in the 2006 election,” he said in a statement.
