Tamil Politicians May Want To See This: All 23 Students Of Puducherry Navodaya Vidyalaya Clear JEE Mains

Maintaining its excellent track record in the examination, all 23 students of Puducherry’s Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) have cleared the IIT-JEE Mains, Times of India has reported.

IIT-JEE (Main) is one of the toughest entrance exam in the country and Puducherry JNV students have been consistently performing well in the exam. Last year, 20 of 21 students from the school had cleared the exam while in 2016 all 23 students had cleared it.

Among the school’s students, Adityaraj Singh Chouhan from Shajapur near Bhopal secured the top rank. He scored 261 out of the 360 marks in the exam securing an All India rank of 1043.

The school students have attributed their success to Avanti Fellows, an NGO which offers two-year online courses and training to students in rural government schools for the exam. It is backed by IITians Akshay Saxena and Krishna Ramkumar and is helping students across seven JNVs in Karnataka and Puducherry.

The Puducherry JNV’s principal B Venkateswaran said that the teaching staff were overjoyed with the students’ performance. He expressed happiness over the achievement saying, “Our students have been performing consistently in the last two or three years in the JEE main and advanced examinations. Each student who cleared the exam has a mentor from IIT Madras.”

The development comes in the backdrop of protests in neighbouring Tamil Nadu over the establishment of JNVs citing fears of Hindi imposition. Political parties were apprehensive of the central government schools and had claimed that the schools would serve as an instrument for spreading Hindi in the state and union territory.
