India’s leading DTH operator Tata Sky may in the near future launch an Android set top box as part of its Binge+ service which is expected to be launched soon, Dream DTH has reported.
This Android STB will reportedly be part of Tata Sky’s combo offer wherein it will also include the Amazon Prime service.
The STB has reportedly been code-named “Pearl S” and will run on the latest Android 9 software. Manufactured by technicolor, it will be powered by a 1.8 GHz Broadcom BCM72604 B processor along with 2 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage.
The set top box may be a hybrid between DTH and OTT content and will also support 4K.
In order to attract new customers Tata Sky may offer free subscription for various OTT streaming services like Amazon Prime.
This report comes in the light of Airtel launching its smart XStream set top box and Reliance Jio announcing its Jio Fiber set top box which will blend traditional TV content with OTT along with services like gaming.
