In a bid to make transfers of teachers more transparent and rational, Punjab cabinet on Wednesday (2 January) approved online transfer policy for the school education department, reports India Today.
The report quotes a government spokesperson saying that initiative was taken to ensure equal opportunity for all employees using online method for seeking transfers.
State Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had earlier asked various departments to come up with a performance-based review policy for transfer of employees in the state.
The condition that teachers would be compulsorily transferred after seven years of service in a particular zone/school has been removed, the spokesperson said.
The new policy has reportedly tweaked conditions for transfer such as the requirement of having three-year minimum stay at one particular station, before a teacher can put a request to get herself transferred, has been now changed to one year.
However, for newly appointed teachers the minimum stay at one place will be three years. Also, newly married female teachers could seek transfer once in these three years if they get married after the appointment.
The new online transfer policy would become effective from academic session 2019-20 i.e. April 1, 2019, the spokesperson added.
