A memorial in remembrance of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been announced by Telangana Acting Chief Minister (CM) K Chandrashekar Rao.

The decision came following a discussion in the state legislative council on Thursday (27 September). Apart from the building, the memorial spread across an acre will have a statue of Vajpayee, reported Daily Pioneer.

Resolutions were passed in condolence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterji and artist Nerella Venu Madhav with the legislative council acknowledged them.

KCR described Vajpayee as ‘a great leader’ and a great man who never compromised on his convictions.

KCR was quoted as saying, “He was part of India’s soul and will remain so.” The Acting CM recalled his contributions to the nation throughout his political career. Despite the opposition from the United States, India under Vajpayee went on to conduct the nuclear tests at Pokhran.

Other parties in the council, including leader of opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir paid tributes to the departed souls. Recently, a bus accident in Kerala took the lives of 57 passengers. The House expressed its condolence over the same.
