Tesla is reportedly working towards an arrangement with Tata Power to establish an infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in India.

The development comes as Tesla has been gearing up to launch its electric vehicles in India. The EV maker had registered its India office in Bengaluru in January and named directors to the company.

However, it should be noted that the negotiations between the two companies are still in the beginning stages and no pacts have been signed as of yet, CNBC-TV18 quoted sources as saying.

The Elon Musk-led Tesla is set to enter the Indian market later this year with plans of importing and selling its Model 3 electric sedan in the country.

Tesla is reportedly planning to build an electric car-making manufacturing unit in Karnataka. The company incorporated Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Ltd with its registered office in Bengaluru back in January.

The development gains significance as Tata Motors had earlier last week denied reports of any prospective partnership with Tesla.

However, whether the conglomerate’s power distribution unit proceeds with a collaboration with the international electric car-making giants remains to be seen.
